From Dmitry Kulakov in Ottawa Ontario, the DK Essence model is based on his slope-shouldered, X-braced ‘Cleopatra’ body, but with a DK custom bridge and tailpiece. The top of the DK Essence is Master-grade Red Cedar with a water-based lacquer finish. The sides, back, headplate, tailpiece and Rosette inserts are figured
Black Walnut.

Dmitry Kulakov has brought us one of his newer creations, the DK Cleopatra model featuring his Fibonacci body shape, Sitka Spruce top and Amazon Rosewood for the sides and back. New guitar designs are relatively easy to come up with, but what’s much more difficult is having that design work as a functional and good sounding instrument. The DK Cleopatra succeeds in these regards, resulting in an attractive and visually striking and rather good sounding instrument.

This DK Concertino was built during 2017 and pairs an Engelmann Spruce top with Black Walnut for the back, sides, headplate and backstrap, with Curly Maple for the neck and binding. The fingerboard is ebony, which is also used coupled with Curly Maple for the tailpiece; the bridge is Rosewood. DK guitars are built by Dmitry Kulakov near Ottawa. These unique instruments are visually arresting and innovative, but work well as playable instruments and sound quite good.

This DK Guitars Picasso was built in 2012 by Dmitry Kulakov near Ottawa. These unique instruments are visually arresting, and what they offer the player is not matched by other designs. The large port on the bass side gives a direct experiece of the guitar’s sound; the player hears this rather than what’s reflected back from the room.
