Introduced in 1949 and until the introduction of Seth Lover’s humbucker in late 1957, the Gibson ES-175 Single pickup archtop electric sported a single P90 in the neck position. The Gibson ES-175 Single and Double pickup models went on to become a workhorse guitar, used on countless stages, studios and performances. It was discontinued in 2019 after a production run of 70 years.

The Gibson ES-175 VOS 1959 Reissue brought back the 1959 version of the classic single humbucking pickup, working player’s jazz guitar. Introduced in 1949 as a 16 inch wide, fully hollow single cutaway electric, the Gibson ES-175 first carried a single P-90 pickup in the neck position. In 1953, the ES-175D was launched with a second pickup, and that became the most popular configuration throughout the 175’s production.

MORE →Once in a while we come across significant instruments like this, almost entirely original, 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Sunburst. Often regarded as one of the Grail treasures of the guitar world, this is an instrument that hardly needs introduction. This 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard was purchased new in 1960, and has had one owner until recently. Decades ago it suffered a headstock break, which was solidly repaired at the time. We have cleaned up the aesthetics of that repair.

MORE →The Gretsch 6125 Single Anniversary appeared in 1958 as an evolution of the Streamliner, itself based on the popular Chet Atkins 6120 model and in 1959 featured Trestle Bracing and the new patent applied for Filter ‘Tron hum cancelling pickup designed by Ray Butts. Here we’re looking at an all original Gretsch 6125 Single Anniversary in Smoke Green Two Tone. It’s in very nice condition, a very good neck angle and minimal wear to the finish and frets. There is a bit of binding damage, typical to Gretsch models of the era (due to long-term interaction between the binding and the binding glue), only on the short piece of binding next to the heel on the cutaway.

MORE →This is a treat – one of the last pieces from the now-closed Memphis plant, a Gibson ES345 1964 Reissue in Frost Blue with nickel plated hardware. Gibson hit the mark squarely in 1958 with the introduction of the groundbreaking thinline semi-hollow concept, coupled with their new humbucking pickups. The ES-335 and upscale ES-355 were an immediate hit, and in 1959 the line was filled out with the mid-range ES-345, which also sported Split Parallelogram position markers and a six-position Varitone circuit, but not the Stereo outputs or extra binding of the ES-355.
