Here is a wonderful rarity – a Fender Stratocaster 1961 model in its original sunburst and with a Rosewood ‘slab’ fingerboard on a Maple neck with heavy Birds-Eye figuring. Introduced in 1954 as a follow up to the highly successful Telecaster, the Stratocaster had only minor alterations until mid 1959 when it gained a major new feature – a Rosewood fingerboard – taken from the new-for-1958 Jazzmaster.
Slab Board
Here we have a Fender Jazz Bass dating to 7 May 1962 with a Burgundy refinish replacing the original Sunburst. This is a fairly rare Rosewood Slab Board model, indicating a type of neck built in Fullerton, California until mid 1962. The Fender Jazz Bass was introduced in 1960, aimed at the Jazz bass players who had not adopted the Precision Bass or who wanted a thinner neck and more focused tone. The Offset Body that debuted on the 1958 Jazzmaster was used for the Jazz Bass body.
Here we have a Fender 62 Jazz Bass Reissue from 1994, in the Olympic White finish. This is a Made in USA model featuring early style concentric controls! The 62 Fender Jazz Bass reissue draws closely from the initial 1960 to 1962 Jazz Bass models. The Jazz Bass was Leo Fender’s second distinct bass model after the two iterations of the seminal Precision Bass. Seeking to capture the remaining jazz bassists still using acoustic basses, this model featured a narrower neck for fast playing, and new single coil pickups with a punchier, more focused tone.

MORE →Here we have a Fender ’62 Reissue Jazz Bass in Olympic White and with gold hardware and original style concentric controls, built during 1988 in Corona, California. Introduced in 1960, Leo Fender’s Jazz Bass sought to win over the bass players who hadn’t yet adopted his Precision Bass and still played upright acoustic instruments. His thought was that the narrower neck and brighter pickups would appeal to jazz artists.
