Here is a brand new, pre-sold G W Barry OM cutaway model with a Bearclaw Spruce top, demonstrating Barry’s great skill in guitar building. Quality Adirondack Spruce is hard to come by… the elusive “bear-claw” feature present in this example is rare, to say the least. The stiffness exhibited by it allows for a top with a much higher “threshold” of volume and tone. Dynamics are at the heart of this choice, retaining detail for both lower and higher attack styles.

This lovely Lawrence Nyberg Cittern pairs a Redwood top and Black Walnut for the sides, back, and back strap (an extra layer on the back of the head). The neck is Mahogany, with Ebony used for the fingerboard and its binding, bridge, and the head plate. A K&K pickup is installed and connected to and end pin jack. Unusually for an instrument of this type, a steel string guitar-style ebony pin bridge is used rather than a floating bridge with an additional tailpiece.

MORE →It is rare to see a Fritz Mueller classical guitar for sale on the open market, as he builds entirely to order and his instruments are prized. Mueller is a highly respected classical guitar builder working about 770 km north of Vancouver at Tatlayoko Lake in the Central Interior region of British Columbia. Inspired by the music of masters such as Segovia and Bream, Mueller began building guitars while an undergrad at the University of Wisconsin.

MORE →It’s fairly unusual to see a Mark Kett guitar for sale. His order book currently extends to 2021, so new guitars don’t appear in shops. His custom inlay work is more visible, as it appears on guitars by other builders including Sergei de Jonge, David Wren, Bourgeois Guitars, Linda Manzer, Frank Brothers, Marc Beneteau, and many others. His work was included in the ‘Group of Seven’ guitar set at the McMichael Gallery.
