This Fender Stratocaster Natural, has an Ash body with Maple neck and was built during 1977 in Fullerton California and with a few period modifications – a brass nut and saddles, and EMG pickups. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, many players sought new ways to customize their instruments for new sounds and capabilities, and this led to the proliferation of third-party parts and pickup suppliers.

MORE →At the end of the 1970s it was apparent that the classic models needed updating and the Fender ‘The Strat’ model appeared in 1980 with this aim. Built from 1980 to 1983, towards the end of the CBS period, The Strat featured an ash body, solid colours and matching (small) headstocks, a gold plated heavy brass bridge and control knobs, and revised wiring with the second tone control replaced with a two-position rotary switch.

MORE →Introduced in 1954 as Fender’s second distinct electric guitar model and soon referred to as the Fender Strat, the Stratocaster was rapidly adopted and has been one of the dominant designs. While there have been some minor changes over the years, until the early 1980’s the design was basically unchanged – a tribute to its success.

MORE →Here we’re looking at a Fender Custom Shop ’69 Stratocaster in the Relic version, built during 2006 at the Fender plant in Corona, California. It’s in very good condition with only light wear – beyond the relic treatment! Closely following 1969 specs, the body is Alder and the neck is Maple. There’s no ‘skunk stripe’ on the back of the neck – the rolled-edge fingerboard is a piece of Maple, applied in the same way a Rosewood board would be, and the truss rod was installed from the front of the neck before the fingerboard was installed.
