PRS EG4 SSH Solidbody Guitar Black, 1991

PRS EG4 SSH Solidbody Guitar Black, 1991

The PRS EG4 was built from 1990 to 1991 at the first PRS plant in Annapolis, Maryland and features an Alder body, bolt on Maple neck with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard and SSH pickup configuration. The influence of the Fender Stratocaster is definitely clear in this design! Here we’re looking at a Series 1 PRS EG4 with black finish and natural Maple neck with short heel, a 22-fret  Rosewood fingerboard and Schaller non-locking tuners.

Rickenbacker 360 Jetglo Black Hardware, 1988

Rickenbacker 360 Jetglo Black Hardware, 1988

The Rickenbacker 360 Jetglo finish is a gloss black treatment on a Maple body and neck. The original design for the 300 series guitars builds the body from two sections of Maple. The top cap is given an external shape, then the interior is routed out from the back to create a hollow cavity. After bracing and shaping, a flat Maple back is put on and on some models, the join is bound (there is no binding on the 330). This is why 360 body binding tends to be on the sound holes and back, only.

Deering Goodtime Blackgrass 5-String Banjo Black, 2019

Deering Goodtime Blackgrass 5-String Banjo Black, 2019

Here’s an unusual instrument for the Goth bluegrass enthusiast – a Deering Goodtime Blackgrass 5-String banjo, in black with chromed tension hooks! Introduced in early Spring 2019, the Deering Goodtime Blackgrass is based closely on the Goodtime resonator models. The construction is all Maple, sourced in North America. The fingerboard is black-stained Maple and the rest of the instrument has a satin Black finish. These instruments are built in the USA, in the same Spring Valley are of San Diego where top-end Deering banjos are made.

Gibson Les Paul Custom Gloss Black, 2002

Gibson Les Paul Custom Gloss Black, 2002

Making its first appearance for 1954 , the Gibson Les Paul Custom has long been the top of the line for many electric guitarists. During the 1950’s, the Custom differed from the rest of the Les Paul line in an invisible way. Unlike the other models with a Maple cap, the Custom had a carved Mahogany top.

Gibson SG Special Cherry 1965

 Gibson SG Special Cherry 1965

The Gibson SG Special first appeared in 1959, but as a Les Paul model featuring a slab body with rounded double cutaways. For 1961, the Les Paul line was completely redesigned and by 1963 the SG name replaced Les Paul’s. Here we’re looking at a Gibson SG Special in the classic Gibson cherry finish, with the short Vibrola tailpiece and compensated ‘stop bar’ bridge combination.
