❌SOLD❌ Gibson LG-2 Steel String Guitar, 1960

Instrument Categories: , ,

For many people in North America, instruments like the Gibson LG-2 were their introduction to playing guitar. The LG-2 features an X-braced spruce top, mahogany back, sides and neck, rosewood fingerboard, and sunburst finish. Built from 1942 to 1962, the LG-2 was replaced by the B-25 in 1962.

This Gibson LG-2 was built in 1960, as seen by its FON (Factory Order Number) R6576 31 on the neck block, visible through the soundhole. The R designates 1960, batch number of 6576, and the 31st guitar in that batch. The guitar was built at the historic Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It is in good playing condition and sounds great. Gibsons of this era have a somewhat narrower nut, 1 9/6ths inch in this case, with a full ‘Gibson’ scale length of 24.75 inches. This makes for a very comfortable playing experience.

This guitar has definitely been used as intended, and has both expected wear and tear and a couple of repairs. The headstock was cracked and repaired long ago, and the repair is solid. it’s recently been in our shop for a fret dress and setup, with regluing some braces and the bridge. The pearl dots on the bridge are replacements and do not cover the standard Gibson bolts – the bridge had been reglued long ago and the bolts were not re-used. The finish is fairly worn in some areas, there are some old touchups, but otherwise the finish is original. The faux tortoise pickguard is original, but is lifting somewhat near the soundhole.

All up, this is a very good sounding, fun guitar to play with a great look. Cases are available, but not included.
