Alexander James hand-builds guitars and basses at his shop in Peterborough, Ontario. He specializes in using exotic woods to achieve specific tones. He has been building since 2002, and has operated Alexander James Guitars since 2008.

Here we are looking at an Alexander James Jazz Tribute bass, built during 2013. Based on the classic Jazz design, this bass uses a Wenge cap on a Maple body, paired with a maple neck and fingerboard and stainless steel frets. For electronics, a pair of Bartolini pickups run through a standard Jazz circuit. The metal hardware has a black finish.

This Alexander James Jazz Tribute Bass is in very good condition with very little wear – especially to the stainless steel frets, which should last a very long time. The finish is a natural oil, and shows off the grain nicely. This bass does have a bit of heft at over 11 pounds, but has lots of sustain, top end and bite, yet still has a warm roundness to the tone. A hard shell case is included.
