⚌Reduced‼ Bruce West Brazilian Rosewood Classical Guitar, 1980

Instrument Categories: , ,

This Bruce West Brazilian Rosewood classical guitar was built during 1980 at Bruce’s shop near Lake Simcoe, south of Barrie Ontario.

Bruce West has been involved in musical instrument building for most of his life, starting at age 12 with a bench at Geo. Heinl’s workshop in Toronto. In his teens he also played guitar for Ronny Hawkins! Friends with Jean Larrivee, Bruce built relationships with all the now-prominent builders who went through the Larrivee Toronto shops. He was friends and partners in some wood ventures with Darryl Williams, who specialized in baroque instruments and classical guitars. I worked with Darryl Williams for some years prior to The Twelfth Fret, and met Bruce during those times. I was helping around the shop during the re-sawing of these Rosewood and Spruce sets, and days of Ebony fingerboard and bridge billets.

This Bruce West Brazilian classical guitar features a long scale at 660mm or 25.98 inches and a relatively wide nut at 55.05mm or 2.166 inches. It has an aged Spruce top and lovely Brazilian Rosewood for the sides, back, headplate and bridge. The traditional slipper-heel neck is Mahogany, with Ebony used for both the fingerboard and its binding. There is one side dot at the seventh fret. The nut and saddle are bone, and a very nice set of tuners are installed; a gold-plated matte lyre style gear plate, black rollers and buttons, and Mother of Pearl inserts in the crown gear centers. They move very smoothly.

The finish is French polish, and is in good condition.

This guitar has been played over the last 43 years and it has light markings from honest playing and string changes. It has a well developed voice with a full, rich tone, plenty of representation throughout the harmonic range.

A Humid Case is supplied with this guitar.
