The guitar of choice for blues artist Rory Block, Martin built the now-discontinued OM-28V in two runs – first as the OM-28VR from 1984 to 1990, then as the OM-28V from 1990 to 2014.

Based on a classic pre-WW2 version of the Orchestra Model design, the OM-28V features Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood for the back, sides and headplate, Mahogany for the neck and Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge.

The top and backstrip feature herringbone purfling, adding to the ‘Vintage’ aesthetic. Martin used Herringbone binding extensively on pre-WW2 guitars, but stopped partway through the war – because they ran out. As the supplier was located in Germany, re-ordering was not possible.

The OM body is placed between the ‘O’ body sizes and the dreadnoughts. It’s very close to the triple-O, but the scale length is longer. It is an excellent size for fingerstyle, and many reviews find the modified-V neck profile on the OM-28V to be very comfortable. Tonally, it’s very well balanced.

This example dates to 2012 and was built at the C F Martin facility in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It is in overall quite good condition, and it is freshly out of The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop for setup with fresh strings. It plays very well, and its quite responsive.

The original Geib-style case is included.
