❌ SOLD ❌ C. F. Martin OM-45 Marquis Steel String Guitar, 2004

Instrument Categories: , ,

The C. F. Martin OM-45 Marquis is a top of the line instrument, built like the Golden Era line but with Indian instead of Brazilian Rosewood. It would be the crown jewel in anyone’s guitar collection! The top and its vintage-scalloped bracing are Adirondack Spruce. The nut and saddle are definitely special, made of fossilized Ivory. This is a 45 style guitar, so it uses an abalone shell liner for the perimeter and soundhole, Snowflake fingerboard inlay set and Martin headstock logo. The neck is mahogany with a bound ebony fingerboard. And, there’s a K & K pickup installed!

This example dates to 2004, and is in pristine condition with only natural finish sinking to indicate its age. The original Martin ‘Geib’ style arched-top case, by TKL, is included.

According to C. F. Martin III, the 14-fret neck was developed in late 1929. Prior to the period, guitars were generally equipped with a 12-fret neck. As the story goes, a renowned plectrum banjoist of the day, Perry Bechtel, suggested to Frank Henry Martin that he make a guitar with a 14-fret neck. Bechtel reasoned that the longer neck would increase the guitar’s range and make it a more versatile instrument. Following Bechtel’s advice, Martin introduced a guitar with the longer neck and dubbed it an ‘Orchestra Model.’
