Conde Hermanos, or the Conde Brothers of Madrid, continue a family tradition of Classical and Flamenco guitar building dating back to 1915. They have produced many high quality instruments used by professionals and advanced students, and been influential in the development of the musical styles.
Since 2010, the Felipe Conde workshop is located at Calle Arrieta 4, moments walk from the Teatro Real and Felipe V monument in central Madrid. It’s a fascinating area to visit.
Here we have a Conde Hermanos classical guitar built during 1992, with a Spruce top and Indian Rosewood for the back, sides, headplate and bridge. The guitar is constructed in the typical Spanish style, with the ‘slipper heel’ integrating the neck, sides and back. The neck is Spanish Cedar with an Ebony fingerboard. Schaller tuners with gold finish and faux pearl buttons are installed at the head and work well.
This is a full 650mm scale guitar, with 51mm nut width. It’s in very nice condition, with some finish wear on the top at the treble side of the rosette – this is from finger contact. The finish is naturally sinking into the wood grain, a good indication that it is a thin coating that won’t restrict the guitar’s vibration. There is a small mark in the top at the tail block, and light wear to the fingerboard at the 2nd fret, 2nd string.
This is a very good sounding and responsive guitar, with a well developed voice and a full range. It sounds like it has been played.
A black Crossrock molded case is included.
