de Jonge Classical Guitar Natural, 2021

Instrument Categories: ,

Here we have a brand-new Sergei de Jonge classical guitar, featuring an elevated fingerboard, Torrefied Spruce top and Bolivian Rosewood sides and back!

Sergei de Jonge has been building and teaching guitar building for many years and like a number of premiere Canadian builders, was one of Jean Larrivee’s early apprentices.

This de Jonge Classical is a modern take on the classical style. It carries an elevated fingerboard- actually the body tapers down, away from the fingerboard – allowing significantly improved upper-fret access. A full 650mm scale length is used, with a 51mm nut width. The top is Torrefied Spruce, and the sides, 3-piece back and head plate are Bolivian Rosewood – not an endangered or listed species. The top is X-braced, unusual for a classical model.   The finish is French Polish,  like many of de Jonge’s instruments.

While the guitar’s label lists a completion date of late November 2021, the inside of the top has a pencilled date of February 11, 2021, and a signature.

Being a new guitar, this example has not developed its voice or projection, but it is full, rich and responsive. It is strung with Martin Magnifico Premium strings, a new collaboration between Martin and Aquila.

This de Jonge Classical guitar is sold with its original deluxe tweed arched-top hard shell case.
