❌SOLD❌ de Jonge Jazz Adjustable Neck Brazilian, 2008

Brand:

Instrument Categories: , ,

The 2008 de Jonge Jazz seen here is available on custom commission only and features an adjustable neck joint, Bearclaw lattice-braced Spruce top with teardrop soundholes, Brazilian Rosewood three-piece back and sides, and a French Polish finish.

Sergei de Jonge has been building for many years, starting with his early work with Jean Larrivee in the Toronto area in the 1970’s. Since then he has had a number of shops, but has settled in Chelsea Quebec. His children are also learning the craft.

The name of this de Jonge Jazz model isn’t written on the label, but there are a few photos of another example on his website’s Gallery page where it is identified as the ‘Adjustable Neck Jazz Guitar’. The top is Bearclaw figured Spruce and is lattice braced, visible through the side soundport. The inside of the top has a date of January 11 2008 and a signature, near the treble teardrop soundhole.

The sides, three-piece Spruce-braced back, head plate and bridge are Brazilian Rosewood. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany; the crowned fingerboard is Ebony and Jescar Evo Gold fretwire was chosen. This gold-colored fretwire is nickel-free and hypoallergenic, and for hardness sits between Stainless Steel and standard nickel fretwires.

This model also features an adjustable neck angle, with the adjuster visible on the heel. The special tool for this is included in the case. The neck joint also forms what is often referred to in the classical guitar context as an elevated fingerboard, improving access to the upper registers.

As is the case for many of Sergei de Jonge’s guitars, the finish is hand-applied French Polish. This offers moderate protection to the surface while imposing minimum of damping. On the top, the finish has worn through where the player’s fingers rested. Otherwise, the finish is in good clean condition, as is the rest of the guitar.

Built in Chelsea, Quebec, this unusual guitar also is fitted with a passive K&K Pure Mini three-element passive pickup set, which is wired to a standard barrel jack in the tail block. This model is rare amongst de Jonge guitars, and current versions are around double this price.

Sold with its original arched-top tweed hard shell case by TKL.
