SOLD Epiphone Elitist Sheraton Sunburst, 2005

Instrument Categories: , , , ,

Built from 2002 to 2008, the Epiphone Elitist Sheraton was one of a line of top-quality instruments showing off how good these guitars can be. All the materials, hardware, fit and finish are top notch and are unquestionably professional grade. Assembled in Japan, they use US-made pickups, electronics and other components.

This Epiphone Elitist Sheraton is in excellent shape with vanishingly small amounts of wear. It plays very well, has a great feel and a very classy appearance. The original Elitist hard shell case, also in excellent condition, is included.

Originally produced at Gibson’s Kalamazoo, Michigan plant from 1958 to 1970, the Epiphone Sheraton is structurally similar to the ES-335 line. This model is most associated with the late John Lee Hooker, and for from 2000 to 2005 Epiphone produced a John Lee Hooker signature model.

However, while it has the same Maple laminate construction with a Maple center block, Maple neck and Indian Rosewood fingerboard, it features multi-layer binding on the top, back, neck, fingerboard and headstock, a classic Epiphone head with vine inlay, and V-block Mother of Pearl and Abalone position markers. The Sheraton also used ‘New York’ style mini-humbuckers with adjustable polepieces, much like the ones used in the later Les Paul Deluxe.

Early models paired an ABR-style adjustable bridge with a ‘Frequensator’ tailpiece or an Epiphone Bigsby-style trem. These modern versions use a standard stop tailpiece for ease of restringing and enhanced sustain.

All the metal parts are gold plated, including the Grover Roto-Matics with ‘Stair-Step’ deco buttons.
