Here is a rare treat – an Eric Sahlin Classical Guitar from 2012 with Western Red Cedar top and Central / South American Rosewood body, and a wonderful tone. It also sports a number of subtle but eye-catching visual details.

Eric Sahlin has been building classical guitars and some lutes since 1975 and full time since 1979 in the Spokane, Washington area. His instruments are highly regarded and he is represented by Guitar Salon International, but his waiting list is currently nine years long.

Here we have a very nice Eric Sahlin classical guitar with a well done gloss French Polish finish on the top, and a gloss finish on the rest of the guitar. The top’s French Polish was fairly recently renewed by G V Rubio and is in very nice condition.

The top is Western Red Cedar, and the sides, back, bridge, head plate and backstrap are all Rosewood from Central / South America. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany. The top and back braces are Spruce, and solid linings are used. The fingerboard is Ebony. The tuners are Rodgers models in the Rodgers style – they also offer Hauser style models.

Perhaps unusually for classical guitars, there are a number of subtle visual details which will be mostly visible to the player. The rosette, tie block and head strip all feature thin rows of Paua or Abalone, providing the occasional glint of shining colour. The body binding has layers of purfling on both the top and the sides, and on the sides, the purfling perfectly follows the line of the heel. Central / South American Rosewood also typically has a dramatic grain pattern and that is definitely the case here.

This is a wonderful sounding guitar, clear, full and rich with sparkling top end.

This Eric Stahlin classical guitar is sold with its original carbon fibre Bam case, built in France.
