Here’s a revisit to the one that started the electric bass revolution – the Fender 51 Reissue Precision Bass, here seen as a Made In Japan version dating to around 2010 and carrying the classic butterscotch finish.

As Leo Fender began producing amplifiers and electric guitars – both Spanish and Steel types – it became apparent that acoustic basses were not going to keep up, and were harder to play in tune. With recent lessons from his successful electric guitars, the solution should have been obvious. His 1951 Precision Bass arguably changed the way music is presented by removing the limits on bass volume and increasing tuning precision.

This is a Fender 51 Reissue Precision Bass, built at the Fuji-Gen plant in Japan as late as 2010, but possibly as early as 2007. Given its good condition, we’re taking the later date. Based closely on Leo Fender’s original design, this bass still stands up to the demands of modern players. This bass has been modified, with the original Japanese pickup replaced with a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder model, the cavities shielded with copper foil and the output jack bowl has been replaced. It’s strung with D’Addario Chromes flatwound, and has two covers, for the bridge and pickup. A hole was drilled into the pickguard, possibly for a finger rest.

This bass plays quite well, looks great, and is supplied with its original brown hard shell case.
