❌SOLD❌ Fender American Special Jazz Bass White, 2011

Instrument Categories: , , ,

The Fender American Special Jazz Bass appeared during 2011, and features an Alder body with Maple neck, Pau Ferro fingerboard, and Vintage Alnico pickups. Very similar to the American Standard series, the American Special most visibly features the Greasebucket tone circuit, which rolls off highs while maintaining low-end definition.

Fender introduced the Jazz Bass during 1960, and offered a much narrower neck than the wildly successful Precision Bass, and a pair of single coil pickups, with two pole pieces per string. This design provided what Leo Fender hoped was a more authentic simulation of an acoustic bass. They also have a mellower, less percussive tone and that was aimed not so directly at the player, but at the rather inefficient bass speakers of the era.

This Fender American Special Jazz Bass example dates to late 2011 and was built at the Fender plant in Corona, California. It sports a gloss white finish on the body, and a gloss natural finish on the neck. The unfinished (other than oil) fingerboard is Pau Ferro, sustainably harvested and similar to Rosewood in a number of ways. It has a lighter colour and a tighter grain, which slightly increases its ‘snappiness’ and brightness, while retaining tonal warmth. However, Pau Ferro does not require CITES permits, reducing costs all around. Fender is now using Pau Ferro in place of Rosewood on a number of lines, including all Made in Mexico production.

This example is in very good, clean condition all round, and comes with its original Fender tweed case.
