❌SOLD❌ Fender Jazz Bass Black, 1973

Instrument Categories: , , , ,

Introduced in 1960, the Fender Jazz Bass was intended to provide a more accurate simulation of an acoustic bass sound, aimed squarely at jazz players. Immediately successful, it rapidly moved into the rock world and has remained in production as one of Fender’s most popular basses.

Here we’re looking at a Fender Jazz Bass from 1973 in a black poly finish; prior to 1968, these basses received a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The body is Ash, the neck Maple with a bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard. As it has the Rosewood board, the truss rod was installed from the top before the board. Consequently there is no Walnut ‘Skunk Stripe’ on the back of the neck.

As a 1973 model, this is a CBS era instrument, with the ‘F’ stamped four-bolt neckplate (the three-bolt MicroTilt neck mount appeared later in the year), bridge and pickup cover in place. The finger rest has been moved to the bass side of the pickguard, for use as a thumb rest; the original mounting holes are visible in the pickguard.

This instrument is in good physical and playing condition. Fret wear is light, suggesting that it was previously strung with flats; currently round wound strings are installed. The finish and metal plating has expected wear and oxidization, and the finish has an amount of buckle wear to the back.

The original black Fender rectangular hard shell case is included. The handle, latches hinges are intact and working.
