The Fender Stratocaster gained rapid acceptance following its 1954 introduction, and with updates and variations it has been in constant production.

Here we have an example from around 1980, in original condition with originl case. It features the classic maple neck and solid colour combination, in this case gloss black. The original strap pins are in the case, and Schaller strap locks have been installed for safety and convenience. It has a 5-way switch, and pickups are original. The trem arm and the almost never seen bridge cover are included in the case.

Stratocaster bridge covers often disappeared rapidly, partly because unlike Telecaster bridge covers, they were too small and curved to function as ashtrays.

This guitar also features one of Leo Fender’s innovations, the three-bolt Micro-Tilt neck joint. This radical improvement allows for very fast adjustment of neck angles and so these guitars can, unlike previous models, be quickly set up for a player’s requirements.

The finish is gloss poly, and is in good condition with some scuffing but little chipping or damage, aside from a chip on the inside of the top ‘horn’. The rear plastic trem spring cover has a crack on the lower treble corner. The black pickguard on black body and maple neck offer an excellent visual contrast.

The serial number is S966075, which can technically break down to indicate 1979 – the letter S stands for the decade, 1970’s, and the first digit following, 9, is the year. The production sequence is 66075, fairly late. However, there is some ambiguity around serial numbers at this time and it’s known that pre-numbered parts were used into the next year or two. This serial number can indicate anything between 1979 and 1981.
