SOLD‼ Fender Telecaster ‘Don’ Blonde, 1968

Instrument Categories: , , , ,

Built during 1968, we’ve nicknamed this beautiful aged-blonde Fender Telecaster ‘Don’ in reference to the letters once affixed to the top. Over time, the blonde finish darkened to a lovely butterscotch tone and when the letters were removed, the lighter finish remained.

The Fender Telecaster has proven to be an excellent illustration of design fitting its purpose, and for nearly 75 years this model has been built and sold with really only minor variations. The Telecaster – and the follow-up Precision Bass – has been used in almost every musical genre where electric instruments are accepted (and even then, sometimes used anyway).

By 1968, Leo Fender had sold his company to CBS and moved on, though his activities were restricted by non-compete agreements. The Fender Telecaster ‘Don’ is a fully CBS-era instrument and in very good, largely original condition. Its maple neck has a date stamp of 3JUN68B. The body is Ash. It shows some signs of use, with light to moderate fret-wear – it is strung with flat-wound strings – and minor dings and dents around the edges. The finish has an amount of natural and expected checking and a pronounced butterscotch tone, with the older blonde tint visible in the wear areas at the edges and below the treble edge of the bridge where the player’s fingers likely rested.

The original hard shell case is included, and contains the ‘Ashtray’ bridge cover, an older pack of Fender strings, a pick and a folded sheet listing chord progressions for three Bee Gees tunes.
