The 1983 Fender Telecaster Natural Finish seen here is from the closing days of CBS ownership of Fender and the end of production in Fullerton, California.

This 1983 example of the Fender Telecaster Natural is in overall good condition, with a few non-original components. The original pickups were replaced with Fender Noiseless models, and the tuners have been swapped for modern Fender tuners. There are a few dents to the body and finish, and fret wear is light. The six-saddle bridge seems to be original. The body is Ash, and the one-piece neck is Maple with a Walnut ‘Skunk Stripe’ covering the truss rod channel. The finish is gloss Polyester.

The Fender Telecaster has been a remarkably successful design, and has been used in almost every genre that accepts electric guitars. It is simple, durable and reliable, and delivers exactly what it needs to.

In 1980, CBS management hired several executives from Yamaha to improve Fender’s operations and profitability. By 1982, US production was starting to focus on classic ‘reissues’ with a small number of standard models – like the Telecaster. In March 1985, Fender was sold to a management group, including the executives from Yamaha. The deal did not include the Fullerton plant. From that point until the 1987 launch of the new Custom Shop in Corona CA, Fender guitars were made in Japan, mostly by Terada.

This 1983 Fender Telecaster Natural is sold with a molded, shaped hard shell Fender case, reminiscent of the 1953 – 1954 ‘Poodle’ case shape.
