Here’s a very nice, clean Fender Telecaster with Rosewood fingerboard and Sunburst finish coming to us from the year 1978!

Leo Fender introduced the Telecaster as the Broadcaster in 1950, but rapidly had to drop the name as Gretsch was using it for a line of drums. ‘NoCasters’ were shipped for a short while during 1951 until new non-infringing ‘Telecaster’ decals and other materials were prepared. Since then, many changes have been made to the instrument without significant alteration to the core design. The most significant change was likely at the end of 1959 when Fender began offering Rosewood fingerboards laminated to the Maple neck in addition to the Maple boards, which were really the prepared and fretted surface of one piece of Maple.

Leo Fender sold Fender Musical Instruments to CBS in early 1965 and they maintained it until 1985, reselling its name and inventory (but not the Fullerton buildings) to a group led by management. At first, much of Fender’s production shifted to Japan while new premises were located and prepared.

This is a very well preserved CBS era Fender Telecaster with Rosewood fingerboard and sunburst finish, built during 1978 at the Fender plant in Fullerton. It’s in very clean condition with light marking here and there.

The wiring seems to have been reworked at some point – the pickup leads in the cavity are plastic coated, as opposed to cloth push-back or metal braid.

This guitar plays well, and looks great.

The original hard shell case is included, and contains an extra pickguard.
