Appearing towards the end of 1962, the Gibson B-25 replaced by way of renaming both the LG-2 and LG-3 models, which only differed in top finish. The sunburst top LG-2 became the B-25, while the natural finish top LG-3 became the B-25N. All three models were identical in terms of construction. These models use a Sitka Spruce top and bracing, paired with Mahogany for the sides, back, body blocks, linings and neck. The fingerboard bridge and saddle are Rosewood. All of these models were discontinued in 1977.

Here we’re looking at a Gibson B-25 built during 1967, likely during the late part of the year given that the fingerboard, bridge and height adjustable saddle are Indian Rosewood, not Brazilian. The adjustable saddle was introduced in 1961 with that part being ceramic. It was changed to a Rosewood part in 1966. Overall this example is in good working order with an expected level of wear to the finish for its 56 years. There are a few dings and dents to the finish, but fret and fingerboard wear are light. The relatively small body size and narrow neck make this quite comfortable and fun to play.

The Gibson B-25 first appeared in 1962 as a student, mid-range model with solid spruce top and laminate mahogany back and sides. Necks tended to be narrower than the professional models, and short scale versions were also built though most used the standard Gibson scale length of 24.6 inches, 626mm, but listed as 24.75 inches (628.6mm). The B series guitars were last produced in 1977.

Until mid-late 1967 and in some cases years earlier, the Rosewood Gibson used for fingerboards and bridges was sourced from CSA, Central South America or Brazil. As CITES restrictions came into force, the use of Brazilian Rosewood ended.
