Built from 1995 to 1999 and eventually becoming the ES Les Paul, the Gibson CS Les Paul Florentine blends features from the Les Paul custom into a heavily chambered, dual F-hole model.
From a distance, the Gibson CS Les Paul Florentine looks like a nicely appointed Les Paul Custom. Closer examination shows the two F-holes – though some few variants, like the Korina Florentine had solid tops – indicating that the construction is based on a heavily routed Mahogany back with a Maple top. The neck is also Mahogany, and bears an Ebony fingerboard plus large Mother of Pearl block Les Paul Custom style position markers, headstock inlays, and binding around the fingerboard and head. The pickups are 57 Classic models, and the wiring is the traditional Gibson layout with pickup selector and individual volume and tone controls. Tuners are Grover Roto-Matics, the bridge and tailpiece are stock Gibson, and the hardware is gold-plated.
An interesting detail about this guitar is its scale length. Most of the listings for these models cite a scale length of 24.75 inches or 628.6mm. However, for these postings we measure every instrument, and here, the measured scale length is 24.603 inches, or 625mm. This is, incidentally, closer to the scale that Gretsch uses on a number of models and contributes to somewhat lower string tension.
Overall, this example is in good condition with normal wear. It also has a few small dents and dings and some lacquer checking, but no structural problems. Fret wear is light, and the guitar plays well and cleanly.
Built during 1997 at the now-closed Memphis plant, this Gibson CS Les Paul Florentine is sold with a black Gibson Custom Les Paul case, though it appears to not be the original case.
