The Gibson ES335 Satin was built in the now-closed Memphis plant as more affordable 335 with all the trimmings, traditional quality and sound. It features the same 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple body and Mahogany neck construction as higher-priced models. The same hardware is used, which in 2014 meant a pair of ’57 Classic pickups – in 2015, Burst Buckers were adopted.

Dating to February 11 2014 and built in Memphis, this Gibson ES335 Satin is in very good condition with very light wear. It has hardly been played, to the point that the protective plastic is still on the pickguard. Fretwear is almost non-existent. The slim taper neck is very comfortable. The use of a TonePros ABR style bridge has a number of advantages, including locking to the bridge posts and importantly, not having the retaining wire which very often rattles.

This Gibson ES335 Satin is in great condition, plays very well, and comes with the original brown Gibson hard shell case. The Certificate of Authenticity is in the neck pocket.

There is an interesting detail in how this example is currently set up.   The stop tailpiece is at its lowest position and the strings are ‘Top-Wrapped’.   This means that the strings are fed ‘backwards’ through the tailpiece, and then are folded back to run over the tailpiece top.   This reduces the break-over angle on the saddles,  which in turn slightly reduces string tension when bending.

Gibson still has a legacy page for the 2015 version of the ES-335 Satin here.

More From The Builder On The Gibson ES335 Satin:

“The Gibson ES335 Satin Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar is a lot of guitar for the money. It features the most-recent body shape and a new bridge setup that locks into the studs for better tone transfer. ’57 Classic pickups are combined with CTS pots and a Memphis tone circuit for soul-satisfying tone. This ES-335 is 100% American-made and comes with a nice hardshell case.”
