Built from 1990 into 2014, the Gibson Flying V 67 Reissue had several names as it turned into a regular production model. All of these followed the same construction and design, using a solid Mahogany body and neck with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Hardware includes a pair of humbucking pickups, Kluson Deluxe style tuners and a stop tailpiece – ABR bridge combination.

The Flying V was introduced in 1958 as one of three radically new designs.  The other two were the Explorer, which made it into production,  and  the legendary Moderne, which may not have survived the prototype stage.

None of these designs were successful when introduced, though it was immediately adopted by popular artists of the day – the late guitarists Lonnie Mack and Albert King (who became a major influence on Stevie Ray Vaughn).    However, only 98 V’s were produced in its initial 1958-59 run. The second 1962-63 run used up leftover parts. These models used Korina (Gibson’s term for African Limba wood) for the body and neck and had a string-through-body design. When re-introduced for 1967, Mahogany was used instead of Korina and a stop-tailpiece or short Vibrola tailpiece were used.  That version is the basis for this Gibson Flying V 67 Reissue.

By this time, a market for the Flying V had developed and while there were some years where production was suspended, and different versions introduced, the model is still in production

Here we’re looking at a Gibson Flying V 67 Reissue sporting a Tobacco Sunburst, dating to May 1, 1990 and built at Gibson Nashville. It is in good shape, with a number of small pressure marks in the finish but no chips, dents or scratches of any consequence. The hardware is all original, the Gibson Deluxe branded tuners are smooth and work well,  and fret wear is very light. It plays well, and is one of the lightest solid body electric guitars available at 6.8 pounds or 3.09kg.

The original rectangular, brown Gibson branded hard shell case is included.
