The Gibson Keb Mo signature Bluesmaster guitar is based on the small-bodied Gibson L-body guitars many blues players used from the 1920’s on. The L-body series weren’t just used by blues players – for many players throughout North America, these were a first serious guitar.

The Gibson Keb’ Mo’ sports a Adirondack Red Spruce top with herringbone purfling, mahogany back and sides, and a mahogany neck with a bound East Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The bridge is also rosewood, with a bone saddle. The finish is Gibson’s normal nitrocellulose lacquer sunburst.

Adirondack Spruce is popular as a top tonewood because of its high stiffness to weight ratio, particularly compared to other popular instrument woods like Sitka Spruce. Because of this, it can provide more clarity, definition and volume when played forcefully.

Built at the Gibson Acoustic shop in Bozeman, Montana during Ren Ferguson’s tenure, this Keb Mo Bluesmaster is in very nice condition with just slight wear – this model doesn’t have a pickguard so it tends to pick up fingermarks. It is accompanied by an original certificate, listing it as the first of a 300-run limited edition. The original Gibson hardshell case by TKL is included.

Here’s what Gibson has to say about the Keb Mo Bluesmaster:

“The blues was born as an acoustic music style and its roots still reach back to that early connection. No artist embraces this ethos more than Keb’ Mo’, whose post-modern blues stylings stretch to fully electric blues, jazz, and R&B, while constantly referencing the Delta-fried, acoustic-fueled music that forms the beating heart of his inspiration. Gibson Acoustic honors this three-time Grammy Award Winner with the Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster, a flat-top acoustic guitar made in the tradition of the great small-bodied Gibson blues boxes with the added versatility of a built-in L.R. Baggs® Element™ pickup with soundhole-mounted volume control.

Gibson’s “L” series acoustic guitars were present at the birth of blues—played by the great blues originator Robert Johnson, among others. These are the inspiration behind the Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster, which adds a host of upgraded appointments to create an acoustic of optimum tone and performance for the contemporary player. With a scalloped-X-braced top of solid Adirondack red spruce, solid mahogany back and sides, quarter-sawn solid mahogany neck, bone nut and saddle, and East Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, the Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster packs all the tonal nuance and sweetness you could hope for in a high-end, hand-crafted acoustic guitar. Vintage-spec touches, such as its 12th-fret neck-to-body joint—which positions the bridge right in the body’s “sweet spot” for optimum resonance—put it on par with the best of Gibson’s acoustics from the late ’20s and early ’30s. Finished with a Vintage Sunburst nitrocellulose finish (with double antiquing), cream top, back, and fingerboard binding, herringbone trim, mother of pearl inlays, and double-ring soundhole rosette, the Keb’ Mo’ Bluesmaster looks as sweet as it sounds. This second edition run features a traditional orange Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop label, a Gibson hardshell case, owner’s manual and Gibson’s Gold Warranty. “
