Built from 1932 to 1971, the Gibson L-50 was a straightforward, non-cutaway archtop guitar with few frills, and until 1935 was most often a round-hole archtop. It is built using a 16 inch wide arched Maple laminate back and arched solid Spruce top, braced with parallel tone bars and bound top and back. The neck is Mahogany with a bound Rosewood fingerboard. The headstock bears a Gibson decal and Kluson Deluxe strip tuners. The pickguard you see here was introduced in 1949.
Here we have a Gibson L-50 built during 1950 at the Kalamazoo plant. It is in good working order, and largely original though the tuner buttons have been replaced. It’s been used as intended, so there are pick marks on the top. The rear of the headstock has some overspray and it is just possible to discern an old and very solid repair. An endpin jack is installed, but there is no pickup.
This guitar plays very well and sounds great – it is lively and brilliant with plenty of volume, and its light weight makes it very comfortable.
A non-original ‘The Loar’ foam case is included.
