Seen here is a very Gibson Les Paul Standard in Iced Tea Burst finish built during 2001 in Nashville, TN. While its top is somewhat plain, it has everything else that’s made the Les Paul an enduring classic. This is a very nice guitar.
While the Les Paul was introduced in 1952, the Les Paul Standard named as such didn’t appear until 1958 after Gibson’s new Humbucking pickups were installed to 1957 models. The ‘new’ Standards also received sunburst finishes, distinct from the gold-top on previous models, or the gloss black found Les Paul Customs.
The 2001 Gibson Les Paul Standard uses the traditional construction pattern of a carved Maple cap on a Mahogany back, paired with a Mahogany neck and bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard sporting vintage trapezoid inlays. The neck features a C-shaped neck profile, and for my hands is very comfortable. Hardware includes Grover Roto-Matic tuners and a Nashville style bridge and stop tailpiece set in Nickel plating. A 490R/498T pickup combination is installed. On this example, the original pots were removed (and are included in the case) and replaced.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard finish is nitrocellulose lacquer, here the ‘Iced Tea’ burst, which looks great with the carved top. The back and neck have a dark filler on the Mahogany with as darker tinted clear finish. There is light wear to the back finish, likely from jean rivets or snap-shirt closers and light bumps to the edges, but otherwise it is in very good condition. Fret wear is light to moderate in the low positions and it plays very well.
Sold with its original hard shell case, which contains the original pots, inspection card, pickguard and truss rod adjustment tool.
