A wonderful rarity – a Gibson Les Paul Triumph Bass in natural finish! Introduced in 1971, the Triumph bass followed closely the Les Paul Bass, introduced in 1969.

The construction of the Gibson Les Paul Triumph bass is perhaps closest to the original Les Paul Custom, in that aside from the fingerboard, it’s entirely Mahogany including the carved top. No Maple cap! However, that’s where the similarities end, as the Les Paul and Triumph basses have low-impedance pickups and extra controls.

Like other Gibson basses, the Gibson Les Paul Triumph bass uses a relatively short scale length of 30.5 inches. Fender basses in comparison, the Precision and Jazz, use a 34 inch scale. Unlike many other basses, though, these have 24 frets.

The electronics on this bass are passive and start with a pair of low-impedance humbucking pickups. These have two coils under the sealed cover, left and right. There are three rotary controls, for volume, treble and bass. A standard three-position Switchcraft switch acts as the pickup selector, and a three-position (Fender style) tone switch offers High, Normal and Deep Bass settings. Finally, there are two slider switches. The first is a phase switch, having effect only when both pickups are selected. The other switches the output between High and Low Impedance.

This Gibson Les Paul Triumph bass is in overall good condition, with a fair amount of play wear. Some time ago, the headstock was broken and repaired; the repair seems solid. The original tripod-style bridge has been replaced by a BadAss bass bridge, and the bridge cover put back in place.

The original Gibson hard shell case is included.
