Here we have a very nice Gibson LP ’59 Reissue sporting a Lemonburst figured Maple top, built during 2013 at Gibson Nashville. This Les Paul ’59 Reissue is identified on its Certificate of Authenticity as “LP ’59 Reissue”.
The now-classic cherry sunburst or shaded Les Paul top first appeared in late May of 1958; previously, the two available finishes were a Gold Top for the basic model and Black for the Custom. These Burst finishes soon became the standard for Les Pauls until the body design changed in 1961, at which point the basic finish was cherry red. Over time, the reds in all of these burst finishes have faded in varying degrees, leading to a variety of hues. The beautiful ‘Lemonburst’ finish seen here represents one of those results.
This Gibson LP ’59 Reissue is in very good, clean and almost original condition with very light wear. The wear is limited to a small amount of jean-rivet pressure marks on the back. Fret wear is negligible, and there’s a small amount of natural oxidization to the nickel plating. Like other Les Pauls in this series, it is built of a figured, bookmatched, carved Maple cap on a Mahogany back, paired with a Mahogany neck and bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard.
It’s also light compared to many other Les Pauls, weighing in at just over 8 pounds (3.64kg). The neck profile is fairly full, but not overwhelming. It’s got a great sound with plenty of resonance and sustain.
The original brown 50’s reproduction hard shell case is included, and contains the Certificate of Authenticity, some tags, and what’s likely a set of amber control knobs, with one broken.
