Gibson Midtown Custom Ebony, 2014

Brand:

Instrument Categories: , , ,

The Gibson Midtown Custom was introduced in 2011 and built until perhaps 2015 as a thin, chambered flat top ES style model. Though it resembles the ES-336 or 339 models, the Midtown line – Standard and Custom – uses a chambered Mahogany body back with a flat Maple cap.

This chambered concept has a history stretching back to the early 1960’s, arguably starting with Roger Rossmeisl designs for both the Rickenbacker 360 and the Fender Telecaster Thinline. It’s very well proven!

The Gibson Midtown Custom and Standard share many features aside from the basic chambered construction. The necks on both models are Mahogany, and the hardware is basically the same – BurstBucker pickups and standard Gibson wiring, a tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece are used, and both have used Grover Roto-Matics; during some years the robot tuners were installed on the Standard.

For differences, the Gibson Midtown Custom uses a Richlite fingerboard with acrylic, faux – Mother of Pearl block position markers as distinct from the Standard’s Indian Rosewood fingerboard with dot markers, and the Custom has the classic split-diamond Mother of Pearl headstock inlay and logo as found on the Les Paul Custom and ES-355. The Standard has the Gibson logo, and Midtown decals.

This Gibson Midtown Custom sports the classic gloss ‘Ebony Black’ nitrocellulose lacquer finish and chrome hardware. is in great condition with only very light wear. It plays well, is a comfortable size and weight, and has a full and resonant sound.

The original black, shaped hard shell case is included.
