The 2007 Gibson SG Special VOS replicates the 1961 style, with a pair of P90 pickups and Classic White finish. Currently this model is offered as the 1963 SG Special Classic White Ultra Light Aged.
Like the SG itself, the SG Special originated as a Les Paul model, officially renamed in late 1963 at the end of Les Paul’s endorsement contract. The Les Paul Special launched in 1955, and the single-cut Les Paul design was dropped from 1961 to 1968. Construction starts with Mahogany for the bevelled, double-cutaway body and neck with Indian Rosewood for the bound fingerboard. Hardware includes a set of strip-mounted Kluson style tuners with creme plastic buttons and a stop-bar bridge. A pair of custom P-90 pickups, individual volume and tone controls, three-way toggle pickup selector and top-mounted output jack round out the electronics.
This Gibson SG Special VOS was built at Gibson’s Nashville Custom Shop during 2007 and is in excellent, clean and all original condition with no appreciable wear. Very light weight and well balanced, is very resonant and sounds as good as it plays.
The original black Gibson Custom branded hard shell case is included, and contains the Certificate of Authenticity, truss rod tool, original cord and other case candy.
