Here’s a wonderful piece that takes us all back. This is a Gibson SG SR VOS 1961, a reissue of the reworked 1961 Les Paul Standard with Lyre Vibrola and Cherry finish. This was the second version of the SG build – the initial production run had a side-to-side vibrola tailpiece. That was quickly replaced with the Maestro Lyre Vibrola, and this form was the SG Standard until the mid 1960’s. By 1963, the Les Paul name was removed for contractual reasons.
This excellent example Gibson SG SR VOS 1961 Les Paul was built during 2006 at the Gibson Custom shop as a VOS, or Vintage Original Specifications model. It is in very good condition; all the case candy is included and the guitar is overall has very little wear of any kind. It is not entirely original, as the original custom shop humbuckers have been replaced with Wolftone Legend PAF style humbuckers. The covers, as with all the plating, is nickel. The tuners are aged reproduction, Kluson Deluxe single-line style models with plastic keystone buttons.
The original black Gibson Custom Shop hard shell case and Certificate of Authenticity are included.
The full name of this guitar is a bit of a challenge. The model specified on the Certificate of Authenticity is SG-SR VOS, which fully expands to Solid Guitar Standard Reissue Vintage Original Specifications. As a production model, It’s currently identified on the Gibson site as the “SG Standard Reissue”. It’s commonly referred to as an SG Les Paul, or ’61 Les Paul Reissue. But whatever you call it, it’s on time for dinner, and brings the goods.
