❌SOLD❌ Gibson SJ200 Jumbo Steel String Sunburst, 1951

Brand:

Instrument Categories: , ,

Introduced in 1938 and in constant production since then, the Gibson SJ200 is one of the largest and most recognisable steel string models. Favoured by many top performers and recording artists, the SJ200 has a commanding visual and audio presence.

You can hear an SJ-200 owned by producer Mickey Most and played by Jimmy Page as the acoustic used on Led Zeppelin’s debut album, and models owned by Pete Townsend on most of his recordings from 1969’s ‘Tommy’ to 1989. Not to be missed, many players including Gene Autry, Ray Whitley, Elvis Presley, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Albert Lee and countless others have relied on this model.

Built from its 1938 introduction until 1946 with Rosewood, in 1947 the SJ200 changed to Flame Maple for the back and sides with a 3-piece Maple/Walnut/Maple neck. Throughout, it has featured a distinctive hand painted pickguard and elaborate ‘Moustache’ cut out bridge.

Here we’re looking at a very nicely preserved Gibson SJ200 dating to 1951 and built at the Parsons Street plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It is in overall rather good condition with some wear, but less than we often see on guitars approaching the 70 year old mark. The bridge was removed and reglued, and the neck set is fine. This guitar was also refretted a few years ago and there is light fret wear. IT’s been set up, and is ready to go! It plays well, and sounds great.

The original hard shell case is included.
