Here we have a G&L L-1000 Bass in Translucent Teal finish, built during the mid to late part of 1981 in Fullerton, California.

The G&L L-1000 is a fully passive bass that can be regarded as a successor to the ground-breaking mid-1957 Precision Bass, which replaced the original single coil pickup with a new, dual-coil, hum cancelling model. G&L was founded by George Fullerton and Leo Fender in 1980, as Leo’s association with Music Man declined. The L-1000 was one of their first bass models, and from 1980 to 1982 the serial numbers were stamped on the bridge plate, as seen here. The truss rod adjuster is at the head, a much more practical arrangement than the original body-end orientation that required removing the neck to avoid damage to the finish or pickguard.

This example features a Swamp Ash body with a bolt-on Maple neck. The bridge design is much heavier than the Leo’s original Precision design, while the tuners are the same Kluson style models. For electronics, a rectangular hum-cancelling pickup is wired to a 3-position mini toggle providing parallel humbucking, single coil, and series humbucking modes. The three passive controls are volume, treble, and bass. The urethane finish is a translucent Teal on the body, and clear on the neck.

While this bass has been used as intended over the years, it is in good clean condition. The finish has an amount of natural checking and a bit of buckle rash on the back, but is in overall good shape.

Sold with a gig bag.
