The Guild Aristocrat M75 appeared in 1954, a new instrument from the Guild Guitar company, formed in 2952 after the Epiphone strike and the factory’s move out of state. While electric guitars were new, the need for electric amplification was clear to everyone and new models and approaches appeared frequently. Guild produced the Aristocrat M75 until 1963.

For the Aristocrat M75, Guild chambered a Mahogany body and capped it with a carved but closed Spruce top. The body is closed – there are no F holes or wiring access panels; wiring is installed and removed through the pickup cavities. This closed-box approach is intended to reduce feedback, always a concern as stage volumes rise. The neck is Mahogany, with a bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard.

Hardware is straight forward. Gold finished Grover Sta-Tite open gear tuners are at the head, with a tune-o-matic style bridge and Guild harp tailpiece; wiring is a pair of Franz P90 type pickups through individual volume and tone controls, and a pickup selector.

The finish is a Poly sunburst that appears to be relatively thin.

This example dates to 2017 and was built in Korea by SPG or Sound Professional Guitar, a company formed by employees buying out their plant when Samick moved production to Indonesia.

It is in very good, clean condition. It’s an impressive guitar, very compact and comfortable to play, and it is very responsive. The action is great.

The original hard shell case is included.

The Guild Aristocrat M75 is part of Guild’s ‘Newark Street’ collection, which contains the Guild Electric guitar models. Guild is presently owned by the Corodoba Music Group, who hired Ren Ferguson away from Gibson Acoustic to renew the line.

Here is the builder’s description of the Guild Aristocrat M75:

“A hollow body with spruce braced top. Guild’s compact and lightweight M-75 Aristocrat model expertly evokes its predecessor of the early 1950s, with a gracefully sculpted single-cutaway hollow body specifically designed to produce the resonance of a larger instrument.

Other premium features include a classic Antique Sunburst finish, comfortable and rock-solid three-piece neck and the tonal magnificence of dual Franz P90 Soapbar pickups. The welcome return of a true Guild classic. Also available in Black.”
