For many players, guitars like this Guild G312 define what a good 12-string should be.

The Guild Guitar company opened during 1953, owned by guitarist Alfred Dronge and George Mann. Their idea was to hire as staff many former employees of the Epiphone company, which had just left Manhattan for Philadelphia to avoid union-related issues.

With this ready-made staff of highly skilled workers, Guild was very quick to bring out a line of arch top and flat top guitars.

Guild became one of the most prominent builders of  acoustic 12 strings, and this 1975 Guild G312 is an example of why that happened. Built in Westerly, Rhode Island, this 12 delivers a lot of tone with an unmistakable voice.

This Guild G312 sports a standard dreadnought body shape, Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood back and sides, mahogany for the neck and ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. Its action is remarkably low for a 12 string of this vintage, suggesting that it has had a very well done neck reset. Currently the action is at 3/64ths inch treble and 4/64ths bass, with plenty of saddle height available.

As a Guild, it feels solid, has a great tone, and fills the room. It is in overall good condition with a few marks and moderate fret wear particularly in the lower positions. The original hard shell case is included.

Guild has changed hands again, and is now owned by the Cordoba company of Spain.   Cordoba has hired the legendary American luthier Ren Ferguson to oversee the new plants and models and we are looking forward to a new era for Guild guitars.
