Here is a brand new Douglas Harrison NJ Custom, with a carved Sitka Spruce top and flamed Big Leaf Maple for the sides, back and neck. NJ stands for ‘Neo Jazz’.
Here’s Harrison on the Neo Jazz Model:
“The “Neo Jazz” was designed to include some structural and visual changes that I had been wanting to incorporate. To achieve a fuller sound from the top I moved the position of the sound holes away from the center. This allows for the central section of the top to be wider and more directly effected by the bridge vibration. To further increase fullness, the side port acts as a monitor to the player without reducing the forward sound projection. Also the pickguard is positioned so not to obstruct the treble side sound hole.”
Featuring a 16 inch wide body, this new Harrison NJ Custom also uses Macassar Ebony for the bridge, tailpiece, head plate, Laskin style arm rest, and a segmented sound port on the upper bass side.
The frets are stainless steel medium jumbo, and it should be years before they require any service. The bridge base is mounted internally rather than floating, and an extra saddle is supplied for players who prefer to use a wound 3rd string.
For hardware, Gotoh 510 models with gold finish and pearloid buttons are at the head, the custom Macassar Ebony tailpiece, and a Bartolini 5J mounted on the fingerboard tag, with the volume control and a series/parallel switch tucked under the bound Macassar Ebony pickguard. The output jack is at the tailblock, through the tailpiece mount.
The finish is clear lacquer with a honey tint.
This is a spectacular guitar, a great showcase for Harrison’s skills.
The original Ameritage-built hard shell case is included.
