The Twelfth Fret ~ Since 1977 ~

❌SOLD❌ Hartel Boucher Banjo Maple, 2008

Brand:

Instrument Categories: ,

Here we have a wonderful historic reproduction – a Hartel Boucher fretless banjo, modelled on an 1850 instrument built by Wm E Boucher of Baltimore, Maryland.

Here is James Hartel on Wm. E Boucher:

” William Esperance Boucher Jr. began making banjos in his Baltimore musical instrument factory around 1848. His banjo gained widespread distribution during the middle of the 19th Century. They were commonly used in Minstrel Shows and carried by soldiers of both sides during the Civil War. “

This Hartel Boucher banjo dates to 2008 and is in very good condition. It features a solid Maple neck with the distinctive Boucher headstock, and what look just like Ebony friction pegs but are in fact excellent PegHed geared tuners.    The 12 inch pot has six cast brass Boucher style brackets, and an Ebony tailpiece.

This is a fretless instrument, so the precise scale length varies with bridge placement. However, with the bridge in the middle of the head as was usually the practice at this time, a fairly short 24 inch or 610mm scale length is produced.

This Hartel Boucher banjo is in excellent condition, is quite loud and has a rather ‘tubby’ tone.

A gig bag is included.
