First breaking on the scene during 1983 as a Steve Vai Signature model, the Ibanez JEM 7V uses the ‘Super Strat’ concept to produce an iconic design. It carries everything the supremely capable electric guitarist needs for stage, studio and tour.
This example dates to 2005 and was built for Ibanez by Fuju-Gen, indicated by the F at the start of the serial number. It is in overall good condition with a bit of wear and some small dings, and minor tarnish on some of the metal parts. It plays really well.
The roots of the Ibanez JEM 7V are unmistakably in Leo Fender’s Stratocaster. The body is basswood-veneered alder with a bolt-on maple neck, and features the Vai ‘Monkey Grip’ cut out. The wide yet slim neck is a three-piece design for stability, with thin walnut layers.
The rosewood fingerboard bears a Tree of Life inlay executed in Mother of Pearl and Abalone, and the last four frets are scalloped.
A locking trem system, based on and improving the Floyd Rose setup, is installed. At this point in the JEM 7V’s evolution, the Edge Pro was used, and gold plated. Tuners are non-locking Gotoh models.
For electronics, the JEM 7V has an HSH configuration – a pair of DiMarzio Evolution Humbuckers with an Evolution Single coil in the middle position. A 5-way switch and master volume and tone controls are added. The pickguard and backplates are a multi-layer pearlescent plastic.
The original molded Ibanez JEM hard shell case is included, and contains the trem arm and all the allen keys for the string locks.
