Shown here is an Ibanez Musician MC100 solidbody, bolt-on electric built during 1978 and 1979 by Fuji-Gen in Nagoya, Japan. The Musician models were original design and very high-quality instruments and marked Ibanez’ move away from relying on copying other designs. The company had proved to everyone’s satisfaction – or dismay – that Ibanez build quality was not an issue. These instruments could compete with anyone else’s.
The Ibanez Musician MC100 was the entry level model featuring a bolt-on neck and ‘standard’ electronics. Other models in the line used set or neck-through construction, and added extra switching and tonal options.
Typical of the time, the Ibanez Musician MC100 body is constructed with Ash wings around a seven-layer Maple / Walnut sandwich. On the Neck-through models starting with the MC200, the same sandwich construction was used for the neck / body center giving a strong visual consistency throughout the lineup. The MC100 neck is three-piece Maple with a 24.75 (628.6mm) inch scale, 24 fret Indian Rosewood fingerboard.
Hardware used on the Ibanez Musician MC100 starts with a set of excellent, smooth turning Ibanez machines at the head, and a ‘Gibraltar’ bridge and tailpiece set at the body. The pickups are Ibanez Super 77 humbuckers, and on this model lead to individual volume and tone controls, a three-way pickup selector and an output jack. On this example, the hardware is original with the exception of one volume knob. The wiring appears original.
Fret wear is light, and the guitar plays well and cleanly.
A non-original hard shell case is included.
