The Ibanez Musician MC500 appeared as Ibanez hit its stride and moved away from straight copies of US models, and was built from late 1977 as a 1978 model to 1980. The Musician series used a multi-piece, neck-through design and active electronics, all quite possibly influenced by the Alembic instruments of the day. Overall, the goal was to provide maximum sustain, stability and tonal versatility in a professional grade package.

In all finishes, a total of about 1,421 Ibanez Musician MC500s were built. 1,144 of these were in the Dark Stain pictured here – the stain applied to the Ash body wings; Natural was the other primary finish, with a very few Antique Violin and Black models.

This is an Ibanez Musician MC500 dating to March of 1979 and built at the FujiGen Gakki plant in Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan.   That plant still builds top quality instruments for many brands. This example is in overall good condition with some wear and tear. Fret wear is light, and the guitar plays well. These were built for sustain, and use the Ibanez Gibraltar bridge mounted on a brass block.

The original metal sided hard shell case is included. The design of these cases was influenced by the flight cases used by touring musicians of the day, and emphasized the professional quality of the instrument inside.
