The Ibanez RG655 Prestige was built from 2014 to 2017 as part of the Prestige line, Made in Japan at the Hoshino Gakki Fuji-Gen shops that produce many high end instruments. The Ibanez Prestige line appeared in 1996 and almost always indicates that the instrument was built in Japan to very high quality standards and higher end components.
The Ibanez RG series came into being in 1992 with the RG550, itself introduced in 1987 but as part of the Roadstar series. Roadstars were introduced in 1979. The RG guitars were immediately popular and have maintained that position. Based on the ‘Superstrat’ concept, the RG series offers a wide variety of features, including pickup configurations, locking or traditional trem systems, and 6 or 7 strings.
Here we’re looking at an Ibanez RG655 GX Prestige, the GX denoting the slightly metallic Galaxy Black finish. It dates to 2017 at Hoshino’s Ibanez Fuji-Gen shop. Predictably, the build and finish quality is very high. The body is Basswood, and the neck is Maple with a Rosewood fingerboard and dot position markers. Tuners are Gotoh SG381 models and an Ibanez Edge locking system, based on the Floyd Rose concept, is stock.
The RG655 uses an HSH configuration, with DiMarzio pickups – a Tone Zone at the neck, a True Velvet in the center, and an Air Norton humbucker at the bridge position. Controls include a 5-way switch, and master volume and tone controls.
This Ibanez RG655 GX is in very good clean condition with only minor play wear. It has been recently set up and plays quite well – the necks on these models are very much oriented towards playing fast with clear definition between notes.
The original Ibanez molded case is included.
