Instrument Categories: ,

Here is something rare and wonderful – a Kawika 6 string ukulele built in Hilo, Hawaii by legendary luthier David C Hurd of Koa and Ebony.

David Hurd built ukuleles and guitar family instruments for many years in Hilo, capital of the Big Island, but retired some years ago partly due to toxicity of some of the more exotic woods used in higher end ukulele construction. His ukuleles are rarely seen on the market and are well respected for the quality of their construction and tone.

This Kawika 6 String Ukulele, built in Hilo Hawaii during 1996 has within inside the top, is David Hurd’s initials a date of 1/5/96 (January 5 1996) and the serial number 5-65 as found on the label. This excellent instrument is built of Hawaiian Koa for the top, back, sides and neck, with Spruce for the bracing and Ebony for the bridge and unbound fingerboard.

This Kawika 6 String Ukulele,  built as a 6 string, but is not strung the same way as a guitar. Instead, the six strings are arranged into four courses, two single strings with octave pairs for the C and A. It is in very good condition, with only light wear.

The original zippered hard shell case is included.
