The Martin 000-18 is one of Martin’s older designs, first appearing in 1924 and built until 1932, then from 1934 to today. At the end of 1929, the 000 body design was altered to accommodate a 14-fret neck at the request of prominent banjo players – particularly bandleader Perry Bechtel – migrating to guitar, with the ‘new’ design named the OM or Orchestra Model.
Here we’re looking at a lovely Martin 000-18 built during 2005 in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It features the traditional Style 18 specs, with a lightly figured Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany sides, back, body blocks and neck, with Indian Rosewood for the head plate, fingerboard and bridge. The top and back are bound, but the fingerboard and bridge are not. Position markers are Mother of Pearl dots, and the pickguard is a black teardrop type, glued to the finish (not the top itself). The tuners are sealed Martin models. The finish is a natural gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. There are no installed electronics, this guitar is fully acoustic.
Overall this 2005 Martin 000-18 is in very good, clean condition with only light wear. The OOO-18 has a rich, full, bright and lively sound with good volume and projection, great for fingerstyle and strumming. The body is more compact than larger D bodies (Dreadnoughts) and can be much more comfortable.
This Martin 000-18 is sold with its original molded hard shell case.
