Martin 00-28 Standard Natural Finish

The Martin 00-28 has been built for over a century, with the first known example appearing in 1898.   The first mention of the 00 body size dates to 1877!  Martin’s 00 body was considered enormous when introduced, and was the largest size until the first 000 sized guitar appeared in 1902, followed a decade later by the D body size built for the Ditson company.   That size did not reach production until 1931, but quickly became dominant. Until the late 1920’s, the 00 was one of Martin’s most popular designs.

The modern Martin 00-28 pairs a Sitka Spruce for the top  and bracing, with Indian Rosewood for the sides, back and head plate.   Mahogany is used for the body blocks and neck, and Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge.  For hardware, tuning machines are open-gear Grover  Sta-Tite models.    Electronics are available as an option.

These models are very comfortable to play, and deliver a full, rich and well balanced tone ideal for finger styles.    The smaller body size makes them ideal for seated playing, and can be surprisingly loud  with good projection.

The Martin 0028 is sold with its original Martin branded hard shell case.

Here’s the builder on the Martin 00-28 Standard Series guitar:

“The rich sound of authentic East Indian rosewood and Sitka spruce, bound in bold herringbone with vintage appointments. Resonant scalloped bracing make natural harmonics and woody tone bloom with every note”
