This Martin D18 Custom Shop is closely based on a classic, and has been one of the most popular guitar designs since its mass market introduction in the early 1930’s. The basic Dreadnought design itself dates from mid 1910’s models built for the Oliver Ditson company.

Like many guitar companies, the Martin Custom Shop allows customers to specify particular features, tailoring the instrument to their own needs. Here, this Martin D18 Custom Shop guitar was ordered with just a few modifications – a slightly narrower nut and some D28 appointments, particularly the rosette.

The basic construction of the Martin D18 Custom Shop is largely unchanged since its early years. The top is Sitka Spruce, and the sides, back, body blocks and neck are all Mahogany. The head plate, fingerboard and bridge and Indian Rosewood. The finish is Nitrocellulose Lacquer, with Gloss on the top and Satin for the rest of the guitar. The pickguard is affixed to the finish – not directly to the top, as was the case until about 1985. This allows the top to move naturally at a different rate than the pickguard, without developing a split. Tuners are Grover Roto-Matics.

This Martin D18 Custom is in great condition with very little wear. Its voice is pretty well developed, with a full, rich representation throughout the harmonic range.

The original Martin molded case is included.
