❌SOLD❌ Muth SF-F3 F-Style Mandolin, Sunburst, 2001

Instrument Categories: ,

This Larry Muth SF-F3 F-Style mandolin was built during 2001 in Regina, Saskatchewan and sports a Tone-Gard back protector and arm rest, allowing the instrument to resonate without restriction.

Larry Muth has been building fine instruments, particularly mandolins, for decades. He began playing in the early 1960’s in Regina, playing in many small venues and coffee shops. Eventually he came to need a mandolin, so he built one; this has been the spark for many long-term builders. Muth has based his work on the highly influential mandolins built in the early 1920’s by Lloyd Loar at Gibson, though he does not directly copy.

Here we’re looking at a Muth SF-F3 F-style mandolin. The arched, carved top is Adirondack or Red Spruce, and the arched, carved back is highly figured, bookmatched Maple, a wood also used for the sides and neck. The fingerboard and bridge are Ebony. The tuners are by Schaller with chrome plating and pearloid buttons; the tailpiece is by Allen. The headstock sports a Mother of Pearl Muth logo and vine inlay. The Tone-Gard rear support and arm rest help the instrument deliver all the volume and tone it’s capable of.

This Muth SF-F3 mandolin plays very well, and has just been set up at The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop.

A hard shell case, likely the original, is included.
